Jubilee Meadow Takes Shape! - February 2013
Tisbury residents now have a good idea of how the Jubilee Meadow will look. The meadow is being created on land leased from the Fonthill Estate as a one of the community benefits of the Wyndhams Place development. Planting has been taking place over the last couple of weeks to form a community garden, orchard and thicket and is being primarily financed by CG Fry, the Wyndhams Place developer. Tisbury Parish Council has donated 8 heritage Wiltshire variety apple trees, as a part of the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and 400 trees were donated by the Woodland Trust.
The remaining land will be mown on a regular basis to encourage a wild flower meadow to establish, and the boundary hedges have also been in-filled with additional plants where necessary. So eventually, the people of Tisbury will be able to help with the community garden and the new orchard and make use of the produce; the meadow will soon be full of wild flowers and the hedges full of insects and birds; and there will also be plenty of space for general play and dog walking.
The planting is being done by ‘Queens Thorne’ and their representatives have been on hand to give expert advice and also help with the orchard trees planted by St John’s Primary School children – see the photographs!
